Background
This project explored intuitive form as well as user interaction, through the creation of a handheld wooden monolith. The initial concept was developed in clay, which allows for quick iteration and easily molds to ergonomic shapes. That finalized form was then sliced, and translated into a stacked wooden structure, designed to align with the natural form and curvature of the human hand.
My primary goal was to create an object that communicates how it should be held without the need for instructions. Through a palm-centered design, an enlarged top, and sculpted thumb rest, the form invites interaction and subtly guides the user’s grip, while relying entirely on shape and natural forms to convey function.
